Aubrey's Story

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Aubrey Cunningham was a very quiet, gentle young man born on April 18, 1992, in Mobile, Alabama. He was the first born of five children, his parents later moved to New York City where Aubrey lived out the rest of his life. Some of the things that Aubrey loved was helping others, being apart of nature, gardening, and science. He was a highly intelligent young man, he was considered a gifted kid by many.

As Aubrey began to get older, he worked at a local grocery store, in which he had met a couple of young men that disrupted his path in life, shortly after he started using Marijuana. At that point I sought out help for him, that's when I'd found a place in Troy, New York called Pahl House for Troubled Teens with Substance Abuse that helped adolescent teens with struggles. I entrusted this agency with my son's life and sent him there for help.

On May 28th, 2006 Aubrey, along with four other youths and four counselors went on a picnic at a nearby park, the next day I had received a phone call stating that my son had drowned in the Hudson River under no supervision, my whole life shattered when I had received that call. At the time when Aubrey's body was found in the river, the four young men had ran away from the institution, and the counselors were nowhere to be found until later on that day with their significant others, and the four young men were located by the authorities a week later.   The negligence of this institution had lead to Aubrey's death, because of this we started Aubrey's Foundation and are currently looking for donations to help open up a building where there is trust, supervision, and accountability for all youths involved.

We're here to promote change in the lives of other teens such as Aubrey. Here at Aubrey's Foundation, we want to provide a safe, stable environment where they can grow within themselves, and where we can provide housing and counseling. We are striving to promote change for the good in young people's lives, and we are here to spread Aubrey's story with your help. Together we can make a difference in the lives of our young generation.
